2014 flew by and with it comes time for another NAMM show. This year I managed to go two days, which allowed me to see even more cool gear. I also caught up with friends, some I haven't seen for a long time. My legs are feeling the wear and tear but it was definitely worth the trip to Anaheim.
So many cool thing this year, where to start??? First cool new item of the year has to be Loknob. This is an after market locking knob for amps and pedals. For anyone that is careful in where their knobs are set, only to get them hit by accident, this is a must have. I have to again make a shoutout to Amptweaker and their owner James Brown. This year I tried the tight fuzz and it is on my short list of pedals I need to own. They make incredible pedals can't say enough about them and James is cool as they get. I was also impressed with Strymon Pedals. All of the ones I tried were top notch, their reputation is well earned. I especially loved the Flint and El Capistan. Another great find was Chicken Picks. Picked up a few to try out. Finally the other pedal that may find its way home soon is the Iron Bell Fuzz by Mojo Hand Fx. I had fun trying that pedal as well.
As with any NAMM show it is also a great time to catch up with old friiends. I managed to hang with my old friend Joy Basu for a bit. Great guitarist that is doing more and more music production as well. Ramsay Bisharah, drummer for Cut Throat & Slugfest among other joint ventures also made the trip out. That of course allowed for another Slugfest reunion moment with Justin Juknelis. Of course I would be remiss if I didn't mention my brother in arms, Dawin Devitis of Last Day Rising, Carbon9 and of course Cut Throat.
